Addis ababa: Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumdar announced that Bangladesh is striving to establish an equitable, resilient, and nutrition-sensitive food system by tackling challenges that align with global commitments, according to a ministry press release. He shared these insights while participating as a panel discussant at a function on the sidelines of the UN Food System (UNFSS+4) Summit in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ali Imam Majumdar highlighted the ambitious journey of transforming Bangladesh's food system. He emphasized the nation's achievements, such as attaining self-sufficiency in food production and implementing an integrated nutrition-sensitive policy framework. Despite these accomplishments, the adviser acknowledged the persistent challenges, noting that farmers are still receiving inadequate profits from their production efforts.

Majumdar stressed the urgency of food system transformation with only five years left to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. He expressed Bangladesh's readiness to collaborate with South Asian and other Asian countries to exchange knowledge, tools, and practices. The adviser mentioned the potential of Bangladesh's 3FS (food, fibre, and fuel) initiative as a regional model, advocating that transforming the food system involves not only what is grown but also how it nourishes people, protects the planet, and empowers producers. Bangladesh is fully committed to advancing this agenda.
