Tangail: National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam today highlighted the significant contributions of political figures like Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq and Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, describing them as architects of Bangladesh. He expressed that without Bhashani, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman could not have emerged as a prominent leader. This was stated during a July Rally at the Nirala intersection following the July Street March in the district town.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nahid Islam emphasized that the mass uprising of 1969, spearheaded by the Awami League, was orchestrated by Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani. He recalled Bhashani's statement post-independence, "We have broken the shackles of Pindi, not to become slaves of Delhi," illustrating his stance on sovereignty.
Nahid Islam also criticized India's claim over Geographical Indication rights on Tangail's traditional handloom sarees, asserting that such status should not be granted to India. The rally was organized by NCP's Chief Coordinator, Nasir Uddin Patwari.
Sarjis Alam, NCP Chief Organizer of the northern region, stressed the need for the police and other forces to remain neutral post-2024. He condemned the ongoing issue of extortion, stating that extortionists must be identified solely by their actions.
Alam further argued for media independence, urging that media personnel should not be aligned with any group or party. The rally saw participation from various NCP leaders, including Azad Khan Bhashani and Masudur Rahman Russell.
Earlier in the day, Nahid Islam visited the families of the martyrs and victims of the July Uprising in Tangail, accompanied by district NCP leaders. The July Street March commenced from Tangail House and concluded at Nirala intersection.
NCP leaders visited the shrine of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, acknowledging his pivotal role in the nation's political development.
