Dhaka: Preya Ghalley shone brightly as she netted a hat-trick to lead Bhutan to a commanding 5-0 victory over Sri Lanka, concluding their SAFF U-20 Women's Championship campaign on a high note at the Bashundhara Kings arena today. This victory mirrored Bhutan's previous success against Sri Lanka, where they secured the same margin of victory in their first encounter.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, with this final triumph, Bhutan secured third place in the tournament standings, amassing six points from six matches. In stark contrast, Sri Lanka ended their campaign without any points, having played the same number of matches.
In the match, Preya Ghalley was the standout performer, scoring in the 41st, 59th, and 64th minutes. Her efforts were complemented by Sangay Wangmo and Namsel Wangzom, who each added a goal in the 73rd and 81st minutes, respectively. Earlier in the tournament, Bhutan faced mixed results, losing 1-6 and 8-0 to Nepal, securing a 5-0 win against Sri Lanka, and suffering 4-1 and 3-0 losses to Bangladesh.
The 6th edition of the tournament saw participation from four teams: Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka. The championship follows a double round-robin format, with the team topping the league table being crowned champion.
