Dhaka: Voice of Enforced Disappeared Persons (VOED), a platform dedicated to seeking truth, accountability, and justice for victims of enforced disappearances and their families, has filed 14 allegations of enforced disappearance at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, VOED adviser Abdul Qaium Mithu, accompanied by a few victims of enforced disappearance, submitted the allegations to the office of the ICT chief prosecutor. Out of the 14 allegations, 13 are directed against former Additional Superintendent of Police Md Alep Uddin, with four other former police officers also implicated in another allegation.
Abdul Qaium Mithu stated, "More than ten thousand people became victims of enforced disappearance during the former Awami League regime. Of the incidents, we are filing allegations over 14 enforced disappearances that took place from 2017 to 2019."
One of the victims, Masud Gazi, shared his experience while being present at the filing. He recounted that he was apprehended by members of the law enforcement agency while returning from Biswa Ijtema in 2019. "They kept me confined and blindfolded for 45 days," he stated, highlighting the ordeal faced by victims of such disappearances.
