Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) has initiated a process to gather detailed information on the officials who served in key roles during the 10th, 11th, and 12th parliamentary elections. This includes returning officers, presiding officers, assistant presiding officers, and polling officers.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the EC has dispatched letters to all deputy commissioners, including those in the Dhaka and Chattogram divisions, requesting the details of officials responsible for conducting the elections in 2014, 2018, and 2024. The move comes as a response to a request from the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to aid in an investigation related to a case filed at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar thana on June 22, 2025.
The PBI's request specifically calls for comprehensive information on the election officials, including their parents' names, permanent and current addresses, national identity card and passport numbers, mobile numbers, and the polling centers where they were stationed during the elections. In light of this, the EC has urged all concerned parties to provide the requested information promptly.
EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed noted that the information is being collected from the field level as part of PBI's requirement for a list of names of officials deployed during the last three parliamentary elections.
