Chattogram: Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain emphasized the importance of eliminating political criminalization from educational campuses to foster a productive learning environment. He expressed these views during a reception event celebrating the silver jubilee of the Islamic Studies and Culture department at Chattogram University, held at July Biplob Smity Hall of Chattogram Press Club.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Khalid highlighted that educational institutions globally are free from party politics, a standard that should be mirrored in Bangladesh. He underscored the need to maintain a congenial environment and uphold educational standards by removing political influences from campuses, a problem persisting even 54 years post-independence.

Dr Khalid pointed out the discrepancy in doctoral research standards, noting that while only 25 percent of foreign references are permissible in doctoral theses outside Bangladesh, this figure is significantly higher within the country. He suggested that this affects the quality of research conducted in Bangladesh.

Reflecting on his student days at Chattogram University, Dr Khalid shared his ongoing connection with the institution and expressed joy in reuniting with former peers and colleagues. The event was chaired by Mohammad Shawkot Ali Nur, with notable speeches from the university’s Pro-Vice Chancellors, Prof Dr Md Shamim Uddin Khan and Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin, as well as retired department chairman Prof Dr Shah Mohammad Sahafiq Ullah.
