Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus today called upon the development partners, non-governmental organizations, media, and civil society to come forward to cooperate with the government to build a healthy and strong nation. ‘Let’s all take Bangladesh forward on the path of progress and prosperity,’ he said in a message on the eve of the World Population Day.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Yunus emphasized that this year’s theme for the World Population Day, ‘Empowering young people to create the families they want in a fair and hopeful world’, is very timely. Highlighting the importance of a skilled population, he mentioned that about 30 percent of Bangladesh’s total population consists of adolescents and young people. The socio-economic development of the country depends on the education, good health, standard of living, and empowerment of this significant demographic.

He further elaborated that it is not sufficient to merely live independently or make decisions about family planning and reproductive health as desired; it is crucial to maintain fairness and a sense of justice across generations. This approach is essential to ensure sustainable development, improved living conditions, and peace and order in society. Moreover, Yunus stressed the need for equal opportunities for all, without discrimination between boys and girls, to build a prosperous Bangladesh.

The chief adviser highlighted that his interim government, formed through the mass uprising of students, workers, and the public, is dedicated to building a developed and prosperous Bangladesh free from discrimination. ‘Embracing the spirit of the July mass uprising, the government is committed to utilizing the immense potential of the young generation by ensuring the best use of family planning, maternal and child health, and adolescent reproductive health care programmes,’ he stated.

Yunus conveyed his wishes for the overall success of all the programmes undertaken on the occasion of World Population Day-2025.
