Dhaka: Education Adviser Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar announced today that efforts are in progress to establish a technical school and college in every upazila of Bangladesh. This initiative aims to transform the country's population into skilled human resources by providing technical education.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prof. Dr. Abrar emphasized the importance of developing a workforce equipped with technical knowledge alongside conventional education. He mentioned that the government is taking significant steps to enhance the technical education system. The project is being implemented in phases across 493 upazilas, with 85 schools already commencing classes. Activities related to land acquisition, building construction, and teacher recruitment are actively underway for the remaining upazilas.
Dr. Abrar underscored the necessity of technical education to boost job opportunities both domestically and internationally. Technical and Madrasa Education Secretary Dr. KM Kabirul Islam revealed that three acres of land will be acquired for each school, with plans to build 100 hostels for female students. Additionally, there will be dormitories for teachers, a residential building for principals, and an academic cum workshop building. Although no immediate allocations are made for student hostels, the government is committed to constructing them in the future.
Director General (Additional Secretary) of the Directorate of Technical Education, Shoaib Ahmad Khan, stated that each upazila will accommodate around 840 students in technical schools and colleges. Students from classes VI to VIII will receive pre-vocational training, and classes IX to XII will offer at least four vocational trades. Furthermore, training in various trades, including SSC (Vocational) and HSC (Vocational) courses, will be available.
Shoaib Ahmad highlighted that approximately 75 teachers will be appointed in each technical school and college. Each institution will feature a female hostel with 200 seats, a teacher dormitory, and a modern laboratory. The project aims to expand technical education opportunities across various upazilas, providing students with the necessary skills for employment.
He also mentioned plans to purchase and supply equipment and furniture for labs and workshops, create 6,400 permanent posts for managing educational activities, and establish 400 outsourcing posts. This will enable several lakh students to study from class VI to class XII.
The initial upazilas selected for setting up technical schools and colleges include Dhamrai and Nawabganj in Dhaka, Saltha, Boalmari, and Bhanga in Faridpur, among others across the country.
