DMP Implements Extensive Security Measures for Ashura Celebrations in Dhaka

Dhaka: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has implemented extensive security measures to ensure the peaceful celebration of the Shia community’s Tazia procession and other programs in Dhaka, marking the holy Ashura on Sunday.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) and DMP Acting Commissioner Md. Sarwar announced the comprehensive security arrangements during a briefing with journalists after inspecting the security measures at the Hussaini Dalan Imambara in Old Dhaka.



Sarwar stated that adequate security arrangements have already been established at key locations including the Hussaini Dalan Imambara, Bora Katra, Mohammadpur Bihari Camp, Shia Mosque, Bibika Rowza, and Mirpur Pallabi Bihari Camp. These sites are set to host the Ashura celebrations with religious solemnity.



He further revealed that important Imambara will be monitored under CCTV coverage. Specialized units of the DMP will be on standby to address any situation that may arise during the events.



The largest Tazia procession for the holy Ashura is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am. The procession will proceed from Hussaini Dalan Gate No. 1, passing through various routes including Bakshi Bazar Lane, Lalbagh Chowrasta Mor, Shaheed Mazar Road, and several other major roads, concluding at the Dhanmondi Lake Karbala.



The DMP has advised the public to use alternative routes to mitigate traffic congestion during the Tazia procession.



Present at the press briefing were Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S. N. Md. Nazrul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner (CTTC) Md. Masud Karim, Joint Police Commissioners, Deputy Police Commissioners, and leaders of the Shia community.
