Dhaka: Agriculture Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury issued a stern warning today that any lobbying for the appointment of project directors will be deemed as a sign of incompetence. Highlighting the importance of merit and competence, he emphasized that appointments will not be influenced by external pressures.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser made these remarks while addressing a meeting at the Bangladesh Agriculture Research Council auditorium in Farmgate. The meeting focused on reviewing various ongoing projects under the Agriculture Ministry. He underscored that project directors should be appointed solely based on their qualifications and capabilities, not through lobbying efforts.
During the meeting, the Home Adviser provided specific directives to officials, stressing the need to protect topsoil, reduce fertilizer usage, halt construction on arable lands, and eliminate corruption in project procurement processes. These measures aim to ensure sustainable agricultural practices and resource management.
In a conversation with journalists, the adviser addressed concerns about the current market conditions, noting that rice prices remain elevated despite a bumper paddy harvest and substantial rice imports. He assured that the government is actively working to curb the rice price hike to stabilize the market for consumers.
