Habiganj: Two people, including a woman, were killed and four others were injured in a collision between a microbus and a truck on the Sylhet-Dhaka highway in Nabiganj upazila of the district today. The tragic incident has raised concerns over road safety in the area.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the deceased were identified as Anwara Begum, a resident of Pabna district, and Nayeem Ahmed Joy, 27, a microbus driver from the Subidbazar area in Sylhet city. The collision occurred around 8:30 am in the Model Bazar area, resulting in the immediate death of Anwara and Joy at the scene.
Parimal Dev, the Officer-in-Charge of Sherpur Highway Police Station, confirmed the details of the accident. The crash left four other passengers injured, who were subsequently rushed to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for treatment. The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding the safety conditions on the Sylhet-Dhaka highway, a crucial route that connects major cities and sees heavy traffic daily.
