Jhenaidah: A freedom fighter was killed and his wife injured in a road accident in the Asannagar area under Shailkupa upazila of the district last night. The deceased was identified as Golam Barik Mandol, 76, a resident of Krishnapur village under Umedpur union in the upazila.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the accident occurred on the Jhenaidah-Kushtia highway around 9:30 pm when a truck hit the motorcycle they were riding. The collision resulted in the death of Barik Mandol on the spot and left his wife injured, as reported by Mrityunjoy Biswas, Officer-in-Charge of Jhenaidah Arappur Highway Police Station.
The injured woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The authorities are likely to conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident, as the community mourns the loss of a respected figure.
