Dhaka: A special prayer, religious programme, and discussion were held in the memory of July Uprising martyrs at Dharmarajik Bouddha Bihar in the city’s Bashaboo area today. Various programmes, including Sanghadan, Ashtaparishkar Dan, and offering food, were organized for the eternal peace of the departed souls of the July Uprising martyrs and the well-being of all living beings in the world.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, CHT Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma addressed the religious function as the chief guest. In his speech, the adviser emphasized that the July Uprising is a milestone in the struggle of the people of the country for self-identity, justice, and the establishment of democracy. He highlighted that the sacrifice of the martyrs will forever inspire the nation.
Supradip Chakma also mentioned that the mass uprising is not only a political movement but also a cultural attempt to rebuild the people’s identity. He stated that the uprising has brought new momentum to the movement for secularism and building a pluralistic society, especially by bringing to the fore the participation of the marginalized communities of the country, including the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Additional Secretary of the Ministry of CHT Md Monirul Islam, Joint Secretary Konkan Chakma, Private Secretary (Deputy Secretary) to the Adviser Khandaker Mushfiqur Rahman, Senior Assistant Secretary Subhasish Chakma, Vice Chairman of the Buddhist Religious Welfare Trust Bhavesh Chakma, Buddhist religious leaders, and students. The President of the Bouddha Kristi Prachar Sangha, Buddhapriya Mahather, chaired the gathering.
