Chattogram: City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain announced that the construction work has begun to install 1,265 smart LED lights on 31.63 kilometers of roads in 10 wards of the city at a cost of Tk 18.76 crore. He emphasized their commitment to creating a city that is free of darkness to ensure safe and comfortable movement for the city dwellers.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Shahadat Hossain inaugurated the smart LED light installation project by installing electric poles on Abdul Hamid Road in Ward No. 8, Sholakbahar. This initiative is part of two sub-projects titled ‘Lighting Development Program (Region-1, Phase-1)’ and ‘Lighting Development Program (Region-5, Phase-1)’, which are being executed with World Bank funding.
Dr. Hossain highlighted that upgrading the lighting system is the initial step in transforming the city into a smart city with the aid of modern technology. He noted that the new system will not only boost safety but also enhance the city’s aesthetic appeal.
The smart LED lights, as explained by Dr. Hossain, can be centrally controlled and monitored via a cloud server. This capability facilitates the easy operation of turning lights on or off, detecting equipment faults, and maintaining the system efficiently.
