Dhaka: Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain today emphasized reorganizing the 'Imams' to advance the changing trend of society toward moral and ideological values. 'Contribution of Imams is enormous for flourishing moral and ideological values of people as they (Imams) are considered as honourable persons in society,' he said. The adviser was addressing the National Hifzul Quran and Sirat competition and National conference of the Imam-'25 as the chief guest at Osmani Memorial Auditorium here.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Hossain highlighted the establishment of the 'Imam-Muazzin Welfare Trust' in 2001, noting that Taka 37 crore 92 lakh 73,000 have been distributed as interest-free micro-credit among 63,197 'Imam and Muazzins' till 2025. He stressed the importance of resisting the misinterpretation of Islam, upholding proper explanations, and establishing peace, harmony, and endurance in society.
'We want a peaceful Bangladesh where mosque would be the hub of knowledge and Imam to be the pioneer of the leadership,' he added. The adviser expressed pride for the nation as competitors achieve success annually in international 'Hifz and Kirat' competitions. This success demonstrates the Quran's enlightenment in children, highlighting the need for training, encouragement, and participation of imams.
Religious Affairs Secretary AKM Aftab Hossain spoke at the function as the special guest, with Islamic Foundation Director General A Salam Khan presiding over the event.
