Dhaka: Three pivotal issues were resolved during a dialogue involving top revenue department officials to address the deadlock caused by the ongoing movement under the NBR Reform Unity Council. The meeting, which lasted for two and a half hours, took place on Thursday evening at the Ministry of Finance, presided over by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Ministry of Finance released a statement indicating the presence of several key figures at the meeting, including the Finance Secretary, the Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division, the Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), and 16 NBR members. The meeting resulted in three critical decisions: withdrawing the complete shutdown and the March to NBR programme announced by the NBR Reform Unity Council, reconsidering two recent transfer orders of officials issued by the NBR, and scheduling a discussion meeting on July 1, 2025, with the involved parties to amend the Revenue Policy and Revenue Management Ordinance, 2025.
The government anticipates that the discussions on July 1, 2025, will facilitate the necessary amendments to the ordinance by July 31, 2025, reflecting the opinions of all stakeholders. In the interest of the nation, including the continuity of business, trade, import and export, and public services, the government has instructed the withdrawal of the complete shutdown and March to NBR programmes. All officers and employees of the NBR have been directed to remain at their offices and focus on their duties.
