Rangpur: Building a strong and integrated social movement against drug abuse and its illegal trafficking has become an important demand of the time to prevent social degradation and save the young generation from ruin. This opinion was expressed at a post-rally discussion organized at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room today on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking-2025.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the district administration and the District Narcotics Control Department (DNCD) jointly organized colorful programs to mark the day. These programs included a rally, discussion, anti-drug essay and drawing competitions for students to highlight the harmful effects of drug abuse on teenagers and youth, and a prize distribution ceremony. The rally commenced from the District Commissioner's office premises and concluded at the Town Hall premises.
Rangpur Divisional Director (Local Government) Md Abu Jafar attended the function as the chief guest, which was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal. Additional DIG of Rangpur Range Shah Montazul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Shafiqul Islam, and Additional Director of Narcotics Control Department Masud Hossain were present as special guests.
Deputy Director of the DNCD Biplob Kumar Modak, in his welcome address, highlighted the importance of the day and the steps taken to protect the younger generation and youth from the dangers of drugs. The speakers emphasized the role of parents in monitoring their children's activities, stating that drug addiction has become a social disease capable of destroying families.
They urged parents to take necessary steps to keep their children away from drugs and ensure a suitable environment for their growth into well-educated and humane individuals. The chief guest highlighted the adverse effects of drug addiction, warning that conditions could worsen unless a strong social movement involving everyone is initiated immediately. He called for united efforts from all concerned to prevent the menace of drugs and narcotics to ensure normal growth and the flourishing of young talent.
Later, prizes were distributed among the winners of the drawing and essay competitions.
