Dhaka: Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) and China International Economic Cooperation Agency (CIECA) today signed an agreement for the renovation of the 6th Bangladesh-China Friendship (Mukterpur) Bridge. Chief Engineer of Bangladesh Bridge Authority Kazi Md Ferdaus and Director General of CIECA under China’s Ministry of Commerce Zhang Guanbin signed the deal on behalf of their respective sides.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the agreement signing ceremony was held at the Bridges Division’s conference room. The event was witnessed by the secretary of the Bridges Division and executive director of Bangladesh Bridge Authority, Mohammad Abdur Rouf, who attended as the chief guest. Rouf stated that the renovation will be financed by China, and once completed, it is expected to enhance the flow of traffic and significantly reduce public sufferings.
Rouf mentioned that the initiative aligns with the guidance of the adviser to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan. He also sought cooperation from local people and drivers of motor vehicles for the smooth management of traffic during the renovation work of the bridge.
Senior officials from the Bridges Division, Bangladesh Bridge Authority, Economic Relations Division, Chinese Embassy, and representatives involved in the renovation project were also present at the event.
