Khulna: In a Divisional Committee meeting aimed at preventing child marriage, the Additional Commissioner (Education and ICT), Debprasad Pal, emphasized the pivotal role educational institutions can play in the mental and intellectual development of children to free society from the curse of early marriage. The meeting, which was the fourth quarterly gathering of the Khulna Divisional Committee, was held in the conference room of the Divisional Commissioner.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Debprasad Pal, while presiding over the meeting, described child marriage as a social ailment that steers young children toward an uncertain future. He highlighted the urgent need to protect children from this threat and underscored the responsibility of parents. He urged parents to spend more time with their children, ensuring they do not become addicted to digital devices, and encouraged gifting good books and promoting a positive mindset for healthy mental growth.

ings organized by the Department of Women’s Affairs to raise awareness against child marriage. He suggested that these meetings should focus on the problems associated with child marriage and the relevant legal aspects. Additionally, small videos could be utilized to sensitize parents about the harmful consequences of early marriage.
The Additional Divisional Commissioner stressed the necessity for a shift in the mindset and thinking of parents, advocating for children to complete their education and contribute to the nation-building process. He also called for intensified awareness campaigns by the deputy commissioners across the Khulna Division, alongside Khulna district, to curb the prevalence of child marriage.
