Government to Procure LNG and Fertilizer to Meet Growing Demand

Dhaka: The government has approved separate proposals for procuring one cargo of LNG and 1,05,000 metric tons of fertilizer to address the country’s increasing demand. The approvals were finalized at the 24th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) held at the Bangladesh Secretariat, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Energy and Mineral Resources Division proposed that Petrobangla procure one cargo of LNG from the spot market through Vitol Asia Pte Ltd, Singapore, at a cost of approximately Taka 569 crore, utilizing an international quotation collection method.



In response to a proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) will procure 40,000 metric tons of MOP fertilizer under the second lot from the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) under a state-level agreement. This procurement will cost around Taka 166.89 crore, with each ton of fertilizer priced at $342.



Additionally, BADC will procure 25,000 metric tons of TSP fertilizer under the second lot from Groupe Chimique Tunisien (GCT), Tunisia, also under a state-level agreement. This procurement is expected to cost around Taka 167.75 crore, with each ton of fertilizer priced at $550.



Furthermore, BADC will procure 40,000 metric tons of DAP fertilizer from OCP NUTRICROPS, Morocco, under a state-level agreement, costing approximately Taka 346.48 crore, with each ton of fertilizer priced at $710.
