Kishoreganj: A three-day fruit fair commenced in the district today under the theme "Eat more local fruits, let's plant fruit trees". Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Khan officially opened the event by cutting a ribbon at the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) premises at 10 am.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, after the inauguration, guests toured the various stalls, showing interest in the diverse array of local and exotic fruits on display. A discussion meeting followed, held at the DAE's hall room, chaired by Deputy Director Dr M Sadikur Rahman. The event featured Additional Police Superintendent Mukit Sarker as the chief guest and Additional Deputy Commissioner Mizabe Rahmat as a special guest speaker.
The fair includes participation from 13 upazila agriculture offices and horticulture centers. A wide variety of fruits such as jackfruit, blackberry, pineapple, Burmese grape (lotkon), dragon fruit, amloki, malta, wood apple, banana, guava, pomelo, dewya, palmyra palm, and other seasonal fruits are exhibited across eight stalls.
The fair, set to conclude on June 27, also incorporates awareness campaigns to promote interest in fruit cultivation among attendees.
