Rajshahi: Safe food consumption has become crucial to ensure sound public health, and all parties involved in food production, manufacturing, processing, and marketing should perform their duties with utmost sincerity to provide consumers with safe food. The District office of the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) hosted a seminar titled “Safe Food and Economic Development and Social Context” at the office conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner (DC).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the seminar was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Mirza Imam Uddin, who emphasized the importance of food safety as the country approaches food security. He stated, “Time has come to ensure food safety to build a healthy and prosperous nation.” He also highlighted the threat posed by adulterated and contaminated food to public health and called for strict punitive measures against those involved in such practices. He noted that public awareness and participation are crucial in combating food adulteration, alongside existing laws and enforcement agencies.
Additional District Magistrate Umme Kulsum Sampa, Rajshahi Divisional General Secretary of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) Golam Mostofa Mamun, President of the local Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry Prof Rozety Naznin, and Editor of Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat also addressed the event. District Food Safety Officer Yeamin Hossain presented the keynote, discussing the current scenario, challenges, and integrated action plans to ensure safe food, stressing the importance of mass awareness to combat food waste and adulteration.
Chamber leader Prof Rozety Naznin highlighted the need for concerted efforts by all government and non-government organizations to protect agriculture from pollution and contamination to ensure food safety. She emphasized the importance of eliminating unhygienic and unsafe foods from markets due to their detrimental effects on public health. She also called for close monitoring and vigilance of street food vendors and hotels to prevent the sale of unhygienic and contaminated foods urgently.
