Khulna: BNP leaders gathered in a human chain to demand the immediate arrest of individuals responsible for the shooting of Dipak Kumar Biswas, the acting headmaster of Telegati Secondary School. They also called for action against holders of illegal arms, drug dealers, and users.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the human chain event was organized by the Khanjahan Ali Thana Unit BNP at the Fulbarigate bus stand. It was a protest against the alleged attack on the school teacher and the activities of leaders from the banned Awami League and its affiliates. Rakibul Islam Bakul, the BNP National Executive Committee’s Student Affairs Secretary, served as the chief guest, while Kazi Mizanur Rahman, the president of the Khanjahan Ali Thana Unit BNP, presided over the event.
Bakul highlighted the long struggle of the BNP, stating, “For 16 long years, we were on the streets, and through a student-public uprising, we forced the tyrant Hasina to resign.” He expressed concerns about the resurgence of terrorism, noting that although Sheikh Hasina had left the country, the remnants of her regime continued to instill fear. He emphasized the sacrifices made by the people, students, and youth in July and August, asserting that they did not fight to see terrorism return.
Criticizing the police’s inaction, Bakul remarked, “Even though Dipak Kumar Sarkar had previously filed a general diary (GD) at the police station regarding threats, the police failed to ensure his safety.” He urged for a united front against terrorism, similar to the efforts that led to Hasina’s ousting.
Bakul issued a stern warning, stating that if terrorist activities persisted in Khanjahan Ali Thana or anywhere in Khulna city, the BNP would counter them through united street movements. He also encouraged the police to align more closely with public sentiment.
City BNP President Advocate Shafiqul Alam Mona, speaking as a special guest, reiterated the demand for the immediate arrest of those involved in the attack on Dipak Sarkar. The event, conducted by General Secretary of Khanjahan Ali Thana BNP Abu Sayeed Hawlader Abbas, also featured speeches from City BNP General Secretary Shafiqul Alam Tuhin, Organization Secretary Sheikh Sadi, and women leader Rehena Isa.
