Cumilla: An anti-tobacco training workshop was held in the district today under the "Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) Act" which aims to reduce tobacco use and its negative health impacts. The workshop was organised by the district administration on Thursday morning at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, ATM Saiful Islam, additional secretary of the Public Health and Law Division, addressed the programme as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Md. Amirul Kaysar presiding over the event. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Pankaj Barua, Additional District Magistrate Mahfuza Matin, District Civil Surgeon Ali Nur Mohammad Bashir Ahmed, and Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shamim Quddus Bhuiyan also addressed the event as special guests.
The workshop saw participation from officials and employees of various government departments, representatives of educational institutions, NGOs, journalists, and professionals from different sectors. The speakers at the workshop highlighted the serious health risks associated with tobacco use and emphasized the importance of increasing public awareness in controlling smoking and tobacco products.
The district administration stated that such training workshops and promotional activities will continue to prevent the harmful effects of tobacco in building a healthy society.
