Dhaka: Education Adviser Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar has highlighted child marriage as a major contributor to the high dropout rate among female students, particularly noting its impact on absenteeism during Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Abrar addressed the issue while speaking at a seminar titled "Future Nation" held at the auditorium of the Bangladesh Family Planning Association (FPAB). He stressed the importance of collective social responsibility in combating child marriage, stating that the effort requires the involvement of families, communities, and educators to ensure that girls remain in school.
"The state alone cannot prevent child marriage. Families, communities, and especially teachers must act with awareness and responsibility to ensure girls stay in school," Dr. Abrar remarked during his speech.
He further emphasized that education and health are among the most essential fundamental rights, expressing hope that the government, guided by reform proposals and the newly issued white paper, will work towards ensuring these rights more effectively in the future.
