Munjitpur: A team of army personnel today arrested the son of former women Member of Parliament (MP) Rifaat Amin from her residence at Munjitpur area in the district town and seized arms and drugs from the house. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the army team led by Major Iftekhar raided the house this noon and conducted a frantic search for two hours. The team arrested Safayet Sarwar Rumon, a son of the former reserved seat MP, when he tried to flee by jumping from the first floor of the building. The army personnel, along with local police, seized a modern air gun, a foreign sword, 50 pieces of drug-related injections, 300 pieces of Yaba tablets, and different brands of liquor from the house. Safayet Sarwar Rumon is the youngest son of the founder President of Satkhira Awami League, the late Ruhul Amin, and former President of Sakhira Mohila Awami League and former MP Rifaat Amin. Legal steps have been taken against the arrested person following the recoveries. The former MP is currently resid ing in the United States of America (USA) along with her elder son.
