Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) today announced efforts to swiftly bring to justice those involved in a robbery of Taka one crore in the Uttara area of the capital on Saturday morning. The perpetrators were reportedly wearing uniforms resembling those of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the home adviser expressed serious concern over the incident while addressing questions after a meeting of the core committee on law and order at the Home Ministry's conference room in Bangladesh Secretariat. He assured that the authorities are doing their utmost to apprehend the culprits promptly.
In response to inquiries about the overall law and order situation, the adviser stated that it remains satisfactory. He also mentioned the preparedness of law enforcement agencies for upcoming elections, noting that the Election Commission will set the election date, and the agencies are ready to ensure smooth conduct.
Further addressing concerns about police inactivity, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury remarked on a public perception developed over the last 15 years, asserting that the police force is more active now and is working towards becoming more humane.
Regarding the issue of push-ins at the border by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF), the adviser confirmed that formal talks have been held with Indian authorities. He criticized push-ins through rivers and jungles, emphasizing that such actions are unacceptable in a civilized nation. He urged India to adhere to legal processes when returning Bangladeshi citizens, assuring that Bangladesh would accept them if proper channels are followed.
