Khulna: The newly constituted Managing Committee of Kapilmuni College has devised a comprehensive master plan aimed at the overall physical and academic enhancement of the esteemed institution located in Khulna.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the first meeting of the new managing committee, chaired by Anwar Aldin, led to the adoption of this ambitious development plan. Kapilmuni College, established in 1967 in Khulna’s Paikgachha, has outlined proposals, including bolstering the college’s financial capacity, introducing a master’s degree course in the Political Science Department, and launching an honors course in the Social Science Department.

Anwar Aldin, who also serves as the chairman of the Board of Directors of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Joint Editor of Dainik Ittefaq, and a specialist examiner of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission, criticized the previous 15-year governance of the ousted Awami League. He accused the former administration of causing financial mismanagement and corruption, which hindered the development of the college. The academic environment deteriorated, and the facilities, including the girls’ common room, laboratory, hostel, classrooms, and internal roads, fell into disrepair.

In response to these challenges, the committee has formulated a strategic plan to reinforce the financial framework of the college, aspiring to transform it into the leading college in South Khulna. A significant step in this initiative is the establishment of the Taka one crore ‘Kapilmuni College Welfare Fund,’ with journalist and human rights activist SM Mustafizur Rahman Parvez appointed as the coordinator. Additionally, a robust advisory committee has been set up to oversee these efforts.

The meeting, conducted by the college’s Principal and Member Secretary of the managing committee, Habibullah Bahar, was attended by notable figures, including Paikgachha BNP convener Dr. Abdul Majid and various members of the college managing committee. The assembly also included discussions on other development projects such as the college welfare fund and the construction of the college gate and surrounding walls.
