Natore: Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin announced that the rawhides of sacrificial animals during Eid ul Azha are being sold at the highest rate in the past decade. He attributed this achievement to the free distribution of salt and efforts to motivate individuals, thereby enhancing preservation capacity.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bashir made these remarks during a view-exchange meeting with the district rawhides traders group at Chakbaiddyanath. He emphasized that the government’s strategy included setting rawhide prices in advance and distributing salt to Madrasahs and orphanages at no cost, facilitating the preservation of rawhides.

“Our goal was that if the rawhides in these institutions are preserved with salt, then there will be a balance between the demand and supply,” Bashir stated. He highlighted the government’s initiative to distribute leaflets detailing relevant policies and generate mass awareness through religious leaders.

Bashir also noted that the government provided approximately 7.50 lakh maunds of free salt to Madrasahs and orphanages nationwide for rawhide preservation, a first in the country. He expressed optimism that these combined efforts have fostered a new culture in the rawhide trading sector, with expectations for further positive outcomes next year.

The meeting also featured speeches from Rawhides Trading Group President Sayedar Khan and General Secretary Halim Uddin. Notable attendees included Natore Police Super M Amzad Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioners M Arif Hossain and M Abul Hayat, and Natore Sadar UNO Akhter Jahan Sathi.

Later, Bashir inspected the rawhide preservation process at a Madrasah in the Chakbaiddyanath area that benefited from the government’s salt distribution, expressing satisfaction with the operations.
