Dhaka: The World Accreditation Day 2025 will be observed in the country like elsewhere in the world tomorrow. This year, the theme of the day is ‘Accreditation: Empowering Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)’, said a handout from Press Information Department (PID) today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, on the eve of the day, Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus gave a message wishing success of the day and extending his greetings to all stakeholders. In his message, the Chief Adviser expressed his satisfaction that Bangladesh joins with other countries to observe the World Accreditation Day.
He emphasized that this year’s theme is timely, highlighting the role of the accreditation system in addressing the challenges faced by SME enterprises. The system ensures quality throughout the product and service supply chain by developing national quality infrastructure, creating skilled technical manpower, removing technical barriers to trade, and opening opportunities for international market entry.
Dr. Yunus pointed out that a significant portion of Bangladesh’s GDP is derived from the SME sector, which also plays a crucial role in job creation. He noted the constant challenges SMEs face, such as barriers to international market entry, shifting consumer demands, and financial constraints, and called for a collective global initiative to address these issues.
The Chief Adviser mentioned that the Bangladesh Accreditation Board has been working towards this goal since its inception. It has awarded accreditation certificates to 155 organizations, including laboratories, diagnostic centers, certification bodies, and inspection bodies, in compliance with international standards.
He also highlighted the commitment of the current interim government, formed through the July mass uprising, to the development of medium and small industries in the country. Dr. Yunus urged the Bangladesh Accreditation Board to continue its positive role in promoting sustainable industrialization, trade, and investment for the country’s desired development.
