Dhaka: The National Citizen Party (NCP) has stated it will not object to holding the national election by April next year, provided that essential reforms and constitutional changes are implemented in advance.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, NCP convenor Nahid Islam emphasized the party’s position, stating, “If effective measures are taken within this timeframe to implement the July Charter, the July Declaration, and key structural reforms, we will have no objection to the proposed election schedule.” Nahid further explained that meeting the expectations of the nation through the fulfillment of the July Declaration and Charter, coupled with the announcement of an election timeline, would align with the party’s vision.

Nahid also pointed out the necessity for reforms and justice to be visibly enacted to ensure a fair and neutral administrative environment for the elections. He remarked, “At the same time, if reforms and justice are made visible to ensure a level playing field and neutrality of the administration, we have no objection to the government’s declaration to hold elections by April next year.”

Furthermore, Nahid highlighted the importance of these reforms being evident prior to the organization of the election. He insisted that in accordance with national expectations, a Constituent Assembly election should be arranged to facilitate the implementation of a new constitution.

The NCP’s response followed an announcement by Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus earlier this evening, confirming that the next national election is slated for the first half of April 2026.
