Dhaka: Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain today announced that Bangladesh will soon issue a fresh diplomatic note to India concerning the ongoing push-in of people across the border, emphasizing the established mechanisms to address such issues. “We will give them a fresh letter (diplomatic note) today or tomorrow. We give them a substantive letter,” the Adviser told reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs while responding to a query this afternoon.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, when asked about the tone of the forthcoming letter, Hossain mentioned that it would depend on how the communication is perceived. He emphasized that Bangladesh continues to maintain regular communication with India on the matter through existing diplomatic channels.

Hossain highlighted that India has provided a list of individuals it claims are Bangladeshi nationals. Bangladesh has accepted some of these individuals after thorough verification. He reiterated that each case will be scrutinized on an individual basis, and only those with confirmed Bangladeshi nationality will be accepted.

“We see it (push-in) is happening. It is not possible to face physically,” Hossain stated, stressing the importance of addressing the issue through established consular mechanisms in a structured and lawful manner. He noted, “There is a mechanism on consular issues, and using the mechanism, Dhaka is trying to bring it under the set rules.”

Responding to another question, the Adviser mentioned that there has been no progress regarding the deportation of ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
