BIDA Chief Sees New Horizons in Bangladesh-China Economic Cooperation

Dhaka: Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun today emphasized that new horizons in Bangladesh-China economic cooperation have emerged following the visit of the largest-ever Chinese business delegation to Bangladesh.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this gathering represents a significant milestone in the growing economic partnership between the two nations. The delegation consists of approximately 250 investors and business leaders from 143 companies, including some of China’s largest firms. The statement was made by Ashik Chowdhury at a press conference following a daylong ‘Bangladesh-China Conference on Investment and Trade’ in the city.

The event was organized by BEZA and BIDA in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce of China and the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka. Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus attended the opening session as the chief guest, while China’s Commerce Minister W
ang Wentao participated as well.

Ashik Chowdhury highlighted that discussions in the technical session focused on topics such as ‘Investment Environment and Economic Zones in Bangladesh,’ ‘Joint Ventures in the Garment and Textile Sectors,’ ‘Chinese Technology Transfer in the Electronics and Machinery Industry,’ and ‘Investment Opportunities in Agriculture and Food Processing Industries.’

He noted that around 550 business representatives from China and Bangladesh engaged in these discussions, with Chinese businessmen showing interest in investing in various sectors in Bangladesh. More than 100 bilateral discussions took place in the B2B and B2G sessions of the conference.

Entrepreneurs from both countries exchanged views on potential joint projects, Ashik Chowdhury added. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between BEZA and Power China International Group Limited to establish a Chinese Agrivoltaics Economic Zone in Matlab Uttar Upazila of Chandpur district.
