Dhaka: Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed announced that the total number of registered Mobile Financial Services (MFS) accounts in the country reached 239.3 million in January 2025, with approximately 42 percent of these accounts held by women. This revelation was made during his pre-recorded speech presenting the proposed national budget for FY26, which was broadcasted through Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Salehuddin Ahmed emphasized the crucial role that MFS plays in the journey towards building a cashless society. He highlighted the service’s contribution to establishing financial governance and enhancing financial inclusion. Furthermore, Dr Salehuddin noted that mobile financial services are effectively bringing banking facilities to people in remote areas. These services facilitate instant money transfers, provide access to government social safety net allowances, enable bill payments, and support the receipt of remittances and various financial services with ease.
