Dhaka: The Bangladesh Metrological Department (BMD) has issued a special weather bulletin advising the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3. The advisory comes as a precautionary measure due to weather conditions in the region.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the bulletin specifies that all fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay should take immediate shelter and remain there until further notice. This warning follows the intensification of a well-marked low over the Northwest Bay and adjacent areas into a Depression.
The Depression was located at 06 am today at approximately 405 km West-Southwest of Chattogram, 395 km West-Southwest of Cox’s Bazar, 230 km Southwest of Mongla, and 245 km Southwest of Payra. The Bangladesh Metrological Department predicts that the system is likely to move in a nearly northward direction and could intensify further.
Under the influence of the Depression, gusty and squally weather conditions are expected to impact the maritime ports, North Bay, and the adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh. The maximum sustained wind speed within 44 km of the Depression center is estimated to be around 40 kph, rising to 50 kph in gusts and squalls. The sea conditions are predicted to remain moderate near the Depression center.
