Dhaka: Environment, Forest and Climate Change Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan has stated that the interim government is tackling three challenging responsibilities: reforms, justice, and elections. "Our responsibilities are broadly three, and all three are very difficult. One responsibility is reform, one is dispensing justice, and the other is election," she addressed reporters after attending a function in the capital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizwana emphasized the national nature of their responsibilities, clarifying that they have accepted a responsibility, not power. She asserted that successful execution of these tasks depends on cooperation from all sectors. Rizwana mentioned that Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has set a timeframe for the next election, scheduled between December 2025 and June 2026, with no room for deviation.
Following an advisory council meeting at Jamuna, Rizwana shared that the council engaged in extensive discussions about their performance and whether they are fulfilling their designated duties. She noted that the interim government has faced multiple demands from the public, resulting in widespread street demonstrations that have disrupted Dhaka city. Rizwana highlighted the difference between public expectation and governmental responsibility.
The environment adviser expressed that the primary pressure they face is self-imposed, related to the performance of their duties. She indicated that failure to fulfill their responsibilities would lead them to return to their previous professions. Despite adverse situations, the government has progressed significantly, forming reform commissions that have submitted reports and are working towards consensus on reform agendas among political parties.
Rizwana reiterated the announced election timeframe, ensuring that elections will occur within the specified period. She also addressed the quick trial process for offenses committed during the July uprising, mentioning the establishment of a second tribunal to expedite proceedings.
