Cox's Bazar: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against a union council chairman and local Awami League (AL) leader, along with the secretary of the union council, for the alleged misappropriation of 10,110 kilograms of government rice. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Deputy Assistant Director of the Cox's Bazar Integrated District Office of the ACC, Muhammad Humayun Bin Ahmed, lodged the case against Syed Alam, the Chairman of Jaliapalong union under Ukhia upazila and president of the union AL, and Nur Md Tariqul Islam, the Secretary of the union council. The ACC has accused the chairman and his secretary of colluding to sell 310 bags of rice, totaling 10,110 kilograms, by submitting a false list of beneficiaries and baseless documents during the 2023-24 financial year. This alleged action resulted in the misappropriation of funds intended for the poor residents of the union. DAD Muhammad Humayun Bin Ahmed, who is also the Investigation Officer of the case, informed BSS tha t more individuals may be implicated if further investigation by the ACC uncovers additional involvement in the misappropriation scheme.
