Khulna: The Teachers' Association of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) has announced a sit-in protest in front of the Vice-Chancellor's office, demanding punitive action against individuals involved in recent altercations and assaults on teachers. The association has urged the administration to act by Monday noon and has commenced a non-cooperation movement with the university administration starting today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision was made during an emergency general meeting of the KUET Teachers' Association, led by President Professor Dr. Shahidul Islam. General Secretary Professor Dr. Md. Faruk Hossain, along with other members, attended the meeting. The teachers previously held discussions with the Vice-Chancellor to address their demands.
General Secretary Faruk Hossain, in a press conference, accused the university authorities of halting disciplinary actions against those involved in the clashes and assaults. He declared that if no satisfactory resolution is achieved, the sit-in protest will take place in front of the Vice-Chancellor's office on Monday noon.
Meanwhile, a separate protest in the form of a human chain was conducted against online harassment targeting KUET professor Dr. M. M. A. Hashem, along with other faculty, students, officers, and staff. In a conversation with BSS, Teachers' Association President Professor Dr. Shahidul Islam expressed disappointment over the unfulfilled demands, prompting the association to initiate non-cooperation and plan the sit-in protest.
