Dhaka: The National Consensus Commission has wrapped up its initial round of discussions with various political parties, culminating in a meeting with the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB). The meeting took place at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, attended by key figures including the Commission's Vice-Chairman Prof Ali Riaz and several other members.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the commission's Vice-Chairman, Ali Riaz, stated that the first phase of dialogues, which commenced two months prior, has now reached its conclusion. Riaz highlighted that while consensus was achieved on numerous issues, there are still areas of disagreement. He expressed optimism about addressing these differing views in the second phase of discussions, aiming to prepare a national charter.
The CPB was represented by a seven-member delegation led by its General Secretary, Ruhin Hossain Prince. The National Consensus Commission, chaired by the interim government's Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, seeks to build a unified national stance on reform matters. The commission began its operations on February 15 and started official talks with the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) on March 20.
Over the course of its initial phase, the commission engaged with 33 political parties, including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), Ganaodhikar Parishad, Gana Sanghati Andolon, and Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party.
