Natore: A sudden Nor’wester, locally known as a Kalbaishakhi storm, accompanied by a hailstorm, swept through Singra and Sadar upazilas, causing extensive damage to crops and fruits over 108 hectares of land last night. The storm’s impact was particularly severe in Singra upazila, where 83 hectares were affected, while Natore Sadar upazila reported damage over 25 hectares.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the storm inflicted significant damage on various crops. Boro paddy was the hardest hit, with 52 hectares affected, followed by maize on 13 hectares and vegetables on 10 hectares. The fruit sector also suffered, with mangoes on 20 hectares, litchis on 3 hectares, and bananas on 10 hectares sustaining damage.
Md. Habibul Islam Khan, the deputy director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), stated that reports concerning the damaged cultivated land, crops, and fruits have been forwarded to the department for further action. The DAE is expected to assess the situation and provide necessary support to the affected farmers.
