Sreenagar: A massive fire at Sreenagar Bazar in Munshiganj gutted 79 shops in the early hours of today. The fire broke out at 2 am in the Batt Tola area of Sreenagar Bazar, burning down shops in the Kapor Potti, Murgi Potti, and Bania Potti lanes.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fire originated in the middle of the market and spread quickly to the surrounding areas, as stated by Dewan Amzad Hossain, the station officer of Sreenagar Fire Service Station. Upon receiving information about the incident, four fire engines from Sreenagar, Louhajang, and Sirajdikhan hurried to the location and managed to extinguish the flames by 7 am.
Shakil Ahammed, the officer-in-charge of Sreenagar Police Station, mentioned that it appears the fire started in the Kapor Potti area and extended to the adjacent lanes. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported, although the full extent of the damage is still being evaluated.
Public Works and Housing Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan visited the site this morning. He noted that the Ministry of Disaster Management has been contacted and, following a report from the Fire Service, the damage will be assessed. Assistance will be provided to the affected people through the administration.
In the meantime, BNP's Volunteer Affairs Secretary Mir Sharafat Ali Sapu has expressed sorrow and sympathy to the traders affected by the fire.
