Rangpur: Three members of the same family, including a female SSC examinee, were killed in a road accident at Jumma Point in Mahesha village near Mir Bailey Bridge in Kaunia upazila of the district today. The tragic incident occurred when a passenger bus collided with a motorcycle traveling in the opposite direction on the Rangpur-Kurigram highway, resulting in the immediate deaths of all three motorcyclists at 9 am, as informed by Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kawnia police station Abdul Latif Shah.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the victims were identified as Rubina Begum, aged 32, her two-year-old son Rahmat Ali, and her 16-year-old niece Afsana Begum Sneha, who was also an SSC examinee. The family, hailing from Mahesha village in the same upazila, was on their way to the Kawnia Mofazzal Hossain Government High School examination center. Ashraful Islam, the driver of the motorcycle and husband of Rubina Begum, was critically injured and promptly transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
The accident occurred as the family reached Jumma Point in Mahesha village, where the passenger bus struck their motorcycle. The impact was so severe that Rubina Begum, her young son, and niece succumbed to their injuries on the spot. The police recovered the bodies from the scene and transported them to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue. However, the authorities were unable to seize the bus involved in the accident. The Officer-in-Charge added that the process of filing a case in connection with the incident is currently underway.
