Rangpur: Vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr. Md. Showkat Ali emphasized the role of art and literature in shaping enlightened individuals. He articulated that these fields nurture human values, promote critical thinking, and inspire positive societal change.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Showkat Ali shared these insights while addressing a function at the Town Hall auditorium in Rangpur. The event, organized by Rangpur Sahitya Academy to mark its second founding anniversary, featured the unveiling of the organization's mouthpiece, 'Mati'. The program included a discussion and a reception honoring distinguished individuals for their exceptional contributions to society.
During his speech, Professor Ali highlighted the importance of respecting enlightened individuals, noting that their philosophies guide future generations. He stressed the need to engage the younger generation actively in art and literature, as these creative endeavors teach sensitivity and social responsibility.
The discussion was presided over by Rangpur Sahitya Academy president poet Hai Hafiz, with general secretary journalist Mohammad Shah Alam moderating. Several notable figures, including Carmichael College principal Prof. Md. Mostafizur Rahman and Bangladesh Betar Rangpur regional director Md Abdur Rahim, spoke as invited guests.
Rangpur Sahitya Academy honored 12 distinguished individuals, including Dr. Mofizul Islam Mantu for medical services and Nasrin Dilara Afroz Pallabi for contributions to disability education. The event concluded with a cultural program celebrating the achievements and contributions of these honorees.
