Sitakunda: Two people lost their lives in separate road accidents in Sitakunda upazila this morning. The deceased have been identified as Md Hasan, 45, a night guard from the Purbo Syedpur area under Syedpur union, and Md Saikat, 26, a truck driver's assistant from the same upazila.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, sources at the Highway Police revealed that Hasan was crushed to death by an unidentified Dhaka-bound vehicle around 6:30am while he was returning after disposing of garbage in a canal beside the highway at Banur Bazar.
Meanwhile, on Saturday night around 10:30pm, a Dhaka-bound covered van was involved in a collision with a truck near the Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex. As a result of the collision, Saikat, the helper of the van, fell from the vehicle and was subsequently run over by its wheels.
Saikat was initially taken to the Upazila Health Complex and later referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where he succumbed to his injuries this morning.
