Mango Harvesting in Rajshahi to Commence from May 15

Rajshahi: Mango harvesting for the current season is set to begin from May 15 throughout the district, with the aim of ensuring the natural ripening of the seasonal fruit. Farmers will start harvesting local and indigenous varieties on this date. Gopalbhog, Rani Pasand or Laxman Bhog will follow on May 20, and Himsagar or Khirsapat on May 30.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the schedule further outlines that Langra mangoes can be harvested from June 10, Amropali and Fazly from June 15, BARI Aam-4 from July 5, Ashwina from July 10, Gourmati from July 15, and Ilamati from August 20. The district administration has released a mango harvesting calendar following a meeting with stakeholders involved in mango harvesting and marketing, held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall.



The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Afiya Akhter, included contributions from Additional Deputy Commissioner Mirja Imam Uddin, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Umme Shalma, and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Sabina Yeasmin. The target has been set to produce approximately 2.60 lakh tonnes of mango from various orchards across 18,515 hectares of land this year. Notices have been issued to fix the harvesting dates for different mango varieties.



Deputy Commissioner Afiya Akhter emphasized the district administration’s vigilance against the harvesting and marketing of immature mangoes. Instructions have been given to law enforcement and upazila administrations. Furthermore, steps will be taken to ensure the efficient transportation and marketing of mangoes.
