Dhaka: The Health Sector Reform Commission has submitted a report emphasizing seven pivotal pillars to ensure universal healthcare access.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, these pillars encompass health service and physical infrastructure; leadership; good governance and working culture; health workforce management; health workforce education and training; essential medicines, medical technology and equipment supply; and health sector financing and health information systems. The commission, under the leadership of Chairman Professor AK Azad Khan, presented the recommendations to Chief Adviser Prof Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the state guest house "Jamuna."
The report begins by dedicating its findings to the memory of the Liberation War of 1971 and the martyred heroes of July-August 2024. The proposal highlights that, despite Bangladesh's progress in primary healthcare over recent decades, the nation remains behind in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and universal health coverage.
The commission also included a public opinion survey in the report, revealing that 97 percent of respondents believe primary healthcare should be provided free of charge.
