Jamalpur: A court here today sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment for raping a minor girl in Madarganj upazila of the district in 2021. The convicted person was Md Ziaul Haque, 40, son of Nural Mandal, a resident of Dighalkandi village in Madarganj upazila of the district.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the prosecution story detailed that convict Ziaul Haque, a shopkeeper, lured the minor girl by offering her chanachur and took her inside a room just beside his shop where he raped her on the afternoon of November 23, 2021. Following the incident, the grandfather of the victim filed a case against Ziaul Haque with Madarganj Model Police Station.
Senior District Judge of Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal-2, Md Shahidul Islam, after examining seven witnesses, conducting a DNA test, and reviewing relevant documents, found him guilty and handed down the verdict. The court also fined him Taka one lakh, with a default penalty of an additional year of imprisonment.
