Gobindaganj: The government’s Boro paddy procurement drive commenced in Gobindaganj upazila in the district on Wednesday.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Food Department has set a target to purchase 9,300 tonnes of paddy during the current Boro season from farmers across the district through 12 designated purchasing centers.
The drive was officially inaugurated at the Local Supply Depot (LSD) in Mohimaganj on Tuesday afternoon. A ceremony held on the premises featured Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Masudur Rahman as the chief guest, representing UNO Syeda Yasmin Sultana. Upazila Food Controller Rawshanul Kawsar presided over the event.
During his address, the chief guest emphasized the importance of transparent procurement in accordance with government guidelines. He marked the formal launch of the drive by purchasing paddy from local farmers. District Food Controller Mijanur Rahman highlighted that 2,203 tonnes of paddy will be procured from Sadar upazila alone, with the government setting the purchase price at Tk 36 per kilogram. Procurement activities in six other upazilas are scheduled to begin shortly.
