Dhaka: Two people, including a minor boy, were killed in separate lightning strikes in Netrokona and Sunamganj districts early today. The deceased were identified as Arafat, 10, son of Abdus Salam of Tiyashree union in Madan upazila, Netrokona, and Rimon Talukder, 20, son of Jahed Talukdar of Atgaon village in Shalla upazila, Sunamganj.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, local Union Parishad member Motahar Hossain reported that Arafat was struck by lightning around 6:30 am while on his way to his madrasah in Tiyashree union. Tragically, the young boy could not survive the sudden lightning strike.
In a separate incident, Shalla Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shafiqul Islam stated that Rimon was herding cows near Kalikota Haor, close to his village, when he was hit by lightning during a light drizzle around 6:30 am. The unfortunate events highlight the ongoing dangers posed by lightning strikes during the monsoon season in Bangladesh.
