Dhaka: National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz stated that the unified efforts of the populace have compelled the fascist government to flee the country. "We've to move forward by embracing the core spirit of this unity. This is not only our commitment, but our responsibility," he emphasized, underscoring the obligation to those who have fought for a democratic, accountable, and participatory state over the past 53 years.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prof Ali Riaz made these remarks at the outset of a discussion between the commission and the Gono Shonghoti Andolon at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, as per a PID handout. The session was attended by commission members including Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Dr Badiul Alam Majumder, Safar Raj Hossain, Justice Md Emdadul Haque, and Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Monir Haider.
Prof Riaz elaborated that the reports delivered by the reform commissions aim to tackle the long-standing crisis in Bangladesh. He stressed the need to establish the framework of a democratic state through unified democratic practices and forces.
A 10-member delegation took part in the discussion, led by Jonayed Saki, the chief coordinator of Gono Shonghoti Andolon. The delegation included the party's executive coordinator Abul Hasan Rubel and other notable members such as Dewan Abdur Rashid Nilu, Hasan Maruf Rumi, Monir Uddin Pappu, among others.
The first phase of reform commissions, comprising the Constitutional Reform Commission, Public Administration Reform Commission, Electoral Reform Commission, Judiciary Reform Commission, and Anti-Corruption Commission, have submitted their recommendations. These recommendations have been distributed to 39 political parties in spreadsheet format, requesting specific feedback.
To date, the National Consensus Commission has received input from 35 parties and has engaged in discussions with 18 political parties regarding the reforms.
